Nov 10

I just completed my first week as a vegan. After my sister gave me her summary of Skinny Bitch, I promised her that I wouldn’t eat any meat for the month of November.

The first week wasn’t as bad as I thought. I imagined that I would crave meat all week. That my mouth would salivate at just the thought of deep fried chicken or a well done peppercorn steak.

Neither has happened.

I must admit that I’m not completely vegan. I think I’m more of a vegetarian because:

  • I had cheese on a vegetarian pizza on Nov 5th.
  • I had French toast twice last week (eggs are the culprit).
  • And I had egg in my Pad Thai from Spring Rolls and in my fried rice from Asian Legend.

What have I eaten this week? The common misconception is that a vegan diet is rich in tofu. Well, I’ve had tofu this week, but I’ve also had beans, lots of vegetables and soya products, such as soya ground, soya chunks and soya milk.

I didn’t realize that Star Trek The Experience is actually connected to the Hilton. I got off the monorail and was barreling through the lobby when I encountered the Borg.

My heart leap to my throat as I came face to face with 3 of 6. Can you guess what my first question was? Watch this 1 minute video to find out.

It’s been quiet on this blog for a few months. I know. I’m working on a few projects:

  • I’m filling my Camtasia Made Simple course.
  • I’m preparing my presentation for the only new media event that I MUST attend – New Media Expo.
  • I’m getting ready to post a call for speakers for a video marketing summit to be held in Toronto in November.
  • And, I’m in the final stretch of my Social Media Mastery coaching group.

DISCOVERING MY PATH

Aside from the projects above, I’m working on something behind the scenes that is consuming alot of my attention. You see, the reason I’ve been quiet is because I’m trying to define my path.

When you don’t know where you’re going, it can be so frustrating. But, as soon as you get clarity on the path you’re supposed to take, it’s the most freeing experience EVER.

It’s not to say that I’ve haven’t done good work, or that my clients haven’t achieved results working with me. Not at all. However, every business must go through a change and mine is no different.

CAN I PUNCH MY COACH?

Over the past 30 days, my coach has been challenging me to find my unique wisdom, to be a big fish in a small pond and to define my persona.

What a difficult thing to do. I’ve had to dig deep down and recall my flaws, triumphs, disappointments and successes from my entire life. Did you hear me? I said my ENTIRE life.

That means documenting:

  • My first day at school and how I hung to my mom’s leg so she wouldn’t leave me.
  • Or, the time I tore a ligament in my knee that resulted in me losing a basketball scholarship to a Division 1 school in the United States.
  • Or, the joy I felt finally skiing down a Black Diamond without landing on my butt once.

Had a non-eventful flight and a good night’s sleep. If you want to follow my adventures while I’m in Las Vegas, follow me on Twitter. Because what happens in Vegas will be revealed on Twitter.

A couple weekends ago, I went to Pacific Mall. It’s huge mall in north Toronto that has predominantly Asian shops. It was busy that weekend and I found out that it’s open 365 days a year – even on statutory holidays. So, on Easter Sunday, I went with my sisters to Pacific Mall because really, I had nothing else to do.

I couldn’t believe some of the “deals” I saw in the mall. You can get a Playstation for $400 and get 30 games for free. Or, you can get 8 movies on DVD for $20. Some of them are blockbusters that are playing in the theatres and aren’t even on DVD yet.  Or, designer handbags that clearly state “For sale in Japan only.”

I stopped in a few electronic stores to marvel at some of the prices on blank CDs, MP3 players and laptops. Some of them are selling the iPhone too. The price? $588 CDN.

In the US, the 8GB iPhone sells for $399 USD. Even with the conversion, if I buy the iPhone in the Las Vegas when I’m there next week, it’ll cost me $402 CDN.

So, while we continue to wait for the iPhone, I’ll see what I can do to speed it up. I mean, because people see me as a podcasting expert, I need to keep on top of these new gadgets, right?  I need to report to you how to refine your podcasts so they can be heard and seen on the iPhone, huh?

Two years ago this month, I officially opened the doors to my business, Caprica Interactive Marketing Inc.

I’ve had to make many sacrifices over the past 2 years to make my business work, however, I’m pleased as a pumpkin that this month marks the second year that I celebrate being gainfully self-employed as a podcasting consultant.

March is almost over, but I  can’t let it go by without celebrating this milestone. I’ve been trying to think how can I do this and include you. Any ideas on how I include you in my celebration? Sure, a launch party comes to mind, but that would exclude those who aren’t in the Toronto area.

Any other ideas?

So, today’s another day I grow one year older.

Who cares, right? Well, here’s a statistic you’ll probably care about – I’m 5 years away from living half my life span (women in North America live until they’re 78, 6 years more than men). Yet, the people in my family tend to live into their late 90s, so you’re stuck with me for a while. In any case, I tend to get reflective around this time of year.

A year ago, I listed the 33 people who have influenced my life. I can’t link to that blog post as 6 months worth of blog postings from podonomics.com didn’t export to leesabarnes.com. So, I’ve got to get someone to do this on the db layer, as well as clean up my categories so that Podcasting Tips & Tricks stops appearing 3 dozen times in my sidebar.

But I digress…

This year, I’m going to share with you the 34 things I really like. Here goes:

This is probably one of the worst renditions of O Holy Night I’ve ever heard. I don’t know who’s singing, so if you do, please share the source in the comments section.

I hope this song brings you as much laughter and good cheer as it did for me. Have an awesome and safe holiday season.
